This is not the first leopard attack on humans in India in recent times. In March, a large-scale operation was conducted in the Jharkhand region to capture a leopard that had entered a factory in the industrial area of Adityapur, causing alarm among local residents. The leopard reportedly attacked one person, causing minor injuries.
In the state of Himachal Pradesh, it was reported that local residents are frightened that leopards are preying on dogs, goats and sheep, and that they have attacked several people in different areas of the state's Hamirpur district. On March 8, a pair of leopards (a male and a female) was spotted in Gujrehra village of Chabutra Gram panchayat in Hamirpur.
