The IAEA recorded a short-term outage at the second unit of the South Ukrainian NPP. The short circuit damaged the insulator, causing a leak and fire of oil, but the reactor was restarted in 17 hours.

The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) confirmed the temporary suspension of one of the power units at the South Ukrainian NPP last week. UNN reports with reference to the IAEA press service.

Last week, the IAEA team at the South Ukrainian NPP reported that its second unit was temporarily shut down after electrical protections were tripped due to a problem with a transformer in a 330 kV open switchgear located off-site

-the IAEA said in a statement.

A short circuit reportedly damaged the ceramic insulator, causing a leak and fire of lubricating oil. After the electrical connection was restored, the reactor was restarted and began supplying electricity to the grid in about 17 hours, reaching full capacity in just over 24 hours after the shutdown, the IAEA added.
