During the renaming of settlements in the framework of decommunization, a village in Odesa region was named after military intelligence. UNN writes about this with reference to the Main Intelligence Directorate and a resolution of the Verkhovna Rada.

Details

The village of Pershotravneve in Rozdilnyansky district of Odesa region was renamed to Hurovske.

According to the DIU, the decision was made to recognize "the important contribution of the Ukrainian intelligence service to the protection of national interests from external threats, strengthening the defense capabilities of our state and honoring the achievements of military intelligence officers.

The explanation of the Institute of National Remembrance of Ukraine states that during a full-scale war with Russia, the DIU soldiers perform a range of complex tasks - from strategic intelligence to combat operations to liberate Ukrainian lands, as well as special missions in the occupied territories and behind enemy lines that undermine the military potential of the aggressor state.

The name Hurovske, which honors the state rank of the Military Intelligence of Ukraine, is not accidental for Odesa region: it symbolizes the continuity of historical traditions in the creation of national intelligence services

- noted in the Defence Intelligence of Ukraine.

They cite as an example that it was in Odesa in 1886 that Vsevolod Zmiienko (1886-1938), a prominent military figure during the Ukrainian Revolution of 1917-1921, a general-corporal of the Army of the Ukrainian People's Republic, one of the organizers of the military special service of the State Center of the UPR in exile, was born.
