An Australian woman gave birth to someone else's child due to an accidental mistake by Monash IVF staff. This was reported by AP News, reports UNN.
Details
The mistake was discovered in February when a clinic in Brisbane discovered that the parents who gave birth had one more embryo in storage. The staff later discovered that another patient's embryo had been mistakenly thawed and transferred into the mother's body.
Australian news outlets reported that the child was born in 2024. Monash IVF did not confirm how old the child is, but apologized for the error.
The clinic paid compensation in the amount of 56 million Australian dollars (35 million US dollars).
