In summer, metal rails on railways can sometimes heat up to more than 50°C, which can cause deformation of the tracks. At this temperature, the speed of trains decreases. This was reported by the press service of Ukrzaliznytsia, according to UNN.
Details
According to UZ, metal rails sometimes heat up to very high temperatures (over 50°C). This can cause deformation of the tracks, and thus a serious danger to train traffic.
For the safety of passengers during the heat wave, the railroad sets up special posts and monitors the temperature of the rails around the clock. They also intensify track inspections and promptly repair damaged tracks.
It is noted that if the temperature of the rails is over 50°C, the speed of trains is reduced. The speed limit is in effect on the relevant sections mainly from 12 to 18 hours.
Ukrzaliznytsia also urged passengers to take into account the heat factor because not all train cars are air-conditioned. Therefore, it is advised to take care of a sufficient supply of drinking water for the trip and avoid perishable snacks.
