The foreign ministers of the G7 countries are meeting in Fuggi and Anagni in Italy to discuss, among other things, the Russian war against Ukraine, Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andriy Sybiga is expected to attend the meeting, the office of the EU diplomat said on Monday, UNN reports.

Details

"High Representative (EU) Josep Borrell will travel to Foggia and Anagni, Italy, on November 25-26 to participate in the second meeting of G7 foreign ministers, which will be held under the Italian presidency this year," the EEAS said in a statement.

On Monday, November 25, Borrell is scheduled to take part in discussions with his G7 counterparts on the situation in the Middle East and the Red Sea. Later in the day, Arab partners will join the discussions under the theme "Together for the Middle East.

"On Tuesday, the 26th, High Representative Josep Borrell will hold an exchange of views with G7 foreign ministers and Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andriy Sybiga on ensuring continued support for Ukraine in the face of Russia's aggressive war," the statement reads.

The discussions will continue with a focus on the Indo-Pacific region with the participation of partner countries from the region. A number of other international issues will be on the agenda, including the Horn of Africa, Venezuela, and Haiti.

As indicated, Borrell will also hold a number of bilateral meetings on the sidelines of the G7 foreign ministers' meeting.

The diplomatic summit is the first since Donald Trump's re-election to the White House and the last under the Italian presidency, Euronews notes. This year's discussions will conclude the G7 ministerial meetings under the Italian presidency before the baton is passed to Canada.

"The United States remains our main ally in ensuring international stability in the world," Italian Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani said at a summit in Brussels on Monday.

Tajani said that the EU needs to play a leading role internationally and be more self-reliant, while working to ensure that the new Trump administration remains committed to the transatlantic partnership.

The G7 program in Lazio includes important international issues, including Russia's war against Ukraine.

"One thousand days after the beginning of the Russian invasion, when tens of thousands of people have died on both fronts because of the evil choice of President Vladimir Putin, we, as the country that holds the G7 presidency, would like to promote a declaration of support and closeness to Kyiv by the heads of government," the Italian deputy prime minister said last Wednesday.

"We are witnessing a very brutal Russian offensive and we are sure that this closeness to the Ukrainian people is very important," he added.

The Italian presidency intends to reaffirm "the G7's full support for Kyiv in military, political, economic and financial terms. It is aimed at achieving a comprehensive, just and lasting peace" in connection with the Conference on the Reconstruction of Ukraine, which will be held in July 2025 in Rome, the newspaper points out.
