Details

According to Jean-Noël Barrot, the purpose of the four diplomats heading to Syria will be to "regain France's influence" in the country, "establish initial contacts" with the new government and "assess the urgent needs of the population" from a humanitarian point of view.

This visit could be France's first official step in restoring ties with Syria after a 12-year break due to the country's long-running conflict.

By the way, French President Emmanuel Macron welcomed the fall of the Bashar al-Assad regime.

Syrian Christians held their first Sunday services since the overthrow of the Assad regime. The new Islamist government has promised to protect the rights of religious minorities, although Christians remain concerned.
