French Defense Minister Sébastien Lecorne said that France launched missile strikes on Islamic State targets in Syria last weekend, UNN reports citing Reuters.

“On Sunday, the French air force carried out targeted strikes on Islamic State targets located on Syrian territory,” Lecorne wrote on the social network X .
The French airstrike followed a similar U.S. military strike in Syria, which the U.S. said killed two Islamic State militants.
Syria is facing an uncertain political future after the Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS) group ousted former President Bashar al-Assad from power on December 8.
The lightning-quick campaign led by the HTS ended a 13-year civil war, but left many questions about the future of the multi-ethnic country, where foreign powers including Turkey and Russia have strong and potentially competing interests.

U.S. officials report a buildup of Turkish troops and artillery along the border with Syria near the town of Kobani. The situation is reminiscent of the events of 2019 before the previous Turkish invasion.
