“While The Acolyte on Disney Plus has introduced some very interesting new characters and story in the Star Wars canon, its story of the dark side of the Force will not be continued in the second season,” the statement said.
As indicated, while the season one finale seemed to set up the series for more episodes, Deadline reported that Disney has canceled The Acolyte.
The news comes a year after Disney CEO Bob Iger told CNBC that curbing spending on big-budget Marvel and Star Wars projects could be an important part of his plan to restore the company's financial health. “And given how expensive it was to produce 'Acolytus,' it's no surprise that it's coming to an end so soon,” the publication notes.
