General Christopher Donahue, who coordinated support for Ukraine, will leave his post in the summer. His departure is linked to Pentagon reform.

General Christopher "C.D." Donahue, who leads U.S. Army Europe and Africa and was one of the key military leaders involved in supporting Ukraine, will leave his post this summer. The Atlantic reports this, citing sources, as reported by UNN.

Details

According to the publication, Donahue may announce his resignation soon. His departure will come just 18 months after his appointment to the position.

The Atlantic notes that the general was considered one of the most promising officers in the U.S. Army and was among the candidates for the position of Chief of Staff of the U.S. Army or even Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff.

In recent years, Donahue has coordinated the adaptation of the U.S. Army to the experience of modern warfare, including studying the lessons of the Russian-Ukrainian war and implementing new approaches to conducting combat operations.

The publication links the personnel changes to a large-scale reform of the Pentagon's leadership being carried out by U.S. Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth.

According to journalists, after Donahue's resignation, the command of U.S. Army Europe and Africa may be downgraded from a four-star to a three-star status.

It is also noted that the administration of U.S. President Donald Trump is reviewing the American military presence in Europe and demanding that NATO allies take on a greater share of the defense burden.

While a new commander is being sought, the duties of the head will be performed by Major General Christopher Norrie, according to The Atlantic.
