Chinese automaker BYD has unveiled the new Formula SL electric sedan with 1,000 horsepower, positioned as a competitor to the Tesla Model S Plaid and Porsche Taycan. This was reported by Autoblog, according to UNN.

The new model was showcased at the 2026 Beijing Auto Show under the premium brand Fang Cheng Bao. The vehicle is part of the company's new direction focused on luxury and high-performance electric vehicles.

The Formula SL is built on a modern 800-volt architecture and is equipped with a tri-motor all-wheel-drive system. The total power output of the powertrain is 1,000 hp.

In terms of dimensions, the model is compared to the Porsche Taycan Turbo S and Lucid Air. The car has a wheelbase of over 3.1 meters and a length of nearly 5 meters.

In addition to its power, the car features the DiSus-M magnetic adaptive suspension system, designed to improve handling and stability in corners. Externally, the sedan stands out with its aerodynamic design and 21-inch wheels.

Sales of the Formula SL in China are expected to start in late 2026. Meanwhile, due to high tariffs, BYD is currently unable to enter the US market with passenger cars.

It is noted that the emergence of such models increases pressure on traditional automakers from the US and Europe, as Chinese companies offer increasingly powerful electric vehicles at lower prices.
