Recently, a terrible tragedy occurred in Kyiv: a young man born in 2004 died due to a broken cable on a ride over the Dnipro River. The details of the incident are to be established by the investigation, as the ride was operated contrary to the recommendations of law enforcement. Kyiv City Council deputy Andriy Vitrenko wrote about this on his Facebook page, UNN reports.
Details
He clarified that the customer of the attraction project in 2020 was PLESO, and the customer of the preparatory work was the Kyiv Investment Agency. The Kyiv City Prosecutor's Office warned of possible dangers and demanded that the attraction be shut down in 2021, Vitrenko recalls.
"They argued that the winning company had no relevant experience and that the operation of such rides was potentially dangerous to human life and health.
No one has the right to ignore signals that can save the lives of our citizens.
The investigation should now establish the details of this emergency and find out on what basis the company operated the attraction, which opened in 2021, contrary to the recommendations," he writes.
Vitrenko added that this tragedy draws attention to the safety and responsibility of the city authorities.
"My position remains unchanged: the safety of citizens must come first. A comprehensive investigation of this incident must be conducted and those responsible must be brought to justice. It is also necessary to review all permits and safety standards for such attractions in the city," he summarized.
As a reminder, back in 2021, the Kyiv City Prosecutor's Office tried to stop the operation of this attraction. According to prosecutors, the Kyiv City Council recognized the winner of the investment tender as a company with no experience in implementing similar projects and no experience in operating attractions of this type. However, the decision of the Kyiv City Commercial Court, which was later upheld by the ruling of the Northern Commercial Court of Appeal and the Supreme Court, dismissed the claim.
