The Royal Belgian Football Association (KBVB) has announced the appointment of Mark van Bommel as the head coach of the Belgian national team. The Dutchman will prepare the team for the 2028 European Championship. This was reported by the KBVB press service, reports UNN.

"The Royal Belgian Football Association is pleased to announce that Mark van Bommel will become the new head coach of the 'Red Devils' from August 15, 2026.
Mark van Bommel has signed a contract to coach our national team until the end of the 2028 European Championship," the statement reads.
Van Bommel himself stated that it is a great honor for him to become the head coach of the Belgian national team.

Together with my coaching staff, we want to build a team that is disciplined, ambitious, and brave enough to compete with the best. The federation stated that as a coach, Mark van Bommel has led, among others, PSV Eindhoven, Wolfsburg, and Antwerp. At Antwerp, he made history by winning both the national championship and the Belgian Cup in the 2022–2023 season.
As a footballer, Mark van Bommel played at the highest level. He played for top clubs such as PSV, Barcelona, Bayern Munich, and AC Milan. Additionally, he played 79 matches for the Netherlands national team, scoring 10 goals. His greatest achievement with the Netherlands was reaching the final of the 2010 World Cup in South Africa.
On July 20, the football association announced that it would not extend the contract with Rudi Garcia, which runs until July 31, 2026.
