In the countries of the region, major roads were covered with snow. Authorities in Bosnia, Serbia and Croatia have banned heavy vehicles and restricted traffic on the roads.
In Bosnia, 150,000 homes are without power due to damaged power lines. This has led to a partial disruption of heat and water supply. The northwestern and western regions of Bosnia are the most affected, with problems with drinking water. Schools have been closed for several days.
The northwestern town of Drvar is cut off from the world: roads and highways are covered with snow, and railroad service has been suspended. The city authorities declared a state of emergency.
