The helmet of Formula 1 driver Ayrton Senna, in which he won the 1992 Hungarian Grand Prix, was sold for $670,000, UNN reports citing Autoblog.
Details
One of Ayrton Senna's helmets used in Formula 1 races was sold for an incredible £500,000 ($670,000) at a Budds auction, highlighting the enduring popularity of one of motorsport's greatest icons. The Shoei helmet was used by him at three Grands Prix in 1992, including Senna's victory at the Hungarian Grand Prix.
"To understand the sale price," it is noted that it fetched almost as much as a 2018 Aston Martin Vantage safety car, which led the race during the controversial 2021 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, now listed for sale on AutoTrader for £599,990 ($800,000), the publication writes.
Senna used this helmet during the 1992 British, German, and Hungarian Grands Prix, defending his Formula 1 World Championship title with McLaren.
Three decades later, it has survived in surprisingly pristine condition, retaining its manufacturing and certification labels, while showing genuine signs of race use, including chips and scratches. The helmet comes with an official McLaren certificate of authenticity, and detailed photo analysis confirmed its use over those three weekends.
