Official Kyiv has rejected a request for a conversation between Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban and Volodymyr Zelenskyy as “a gesture absolutely unprecedented in diplomacy.” This was announced by Hungarian Foreign Minister Peter Szijjarto, reports UNN with reference to Veol.

According to Szijjarto, after Orban's conversation with Russian dictator Putin, he informed Ukraine's Foreign Minister and the head of the Office of the President of Ukraine to allow a telephone conversation between the Hungarian prime minister and the President of Ukraine.

However, official Kyiv, in a “gesture absolutely unprecedented in diplomacy,” “refused to do so in a somewhat strained, cultural form.

In addition, the Hungarian Foreign Minister emphasized that his country has done more for the peaceful settlement of the war in Ukraine than most others.

“Few countries have done more for the peaceful settlement of the Russian-Ukrainian conflict than Hungary,” Szijjarto said.

Szijjártó noted that Hungary's position, which remains unchanged, is that this war has no solution on the battlefield, and brings only victims, suffering and further destruction.

“The fact that millions of people have died, that arms deliveries have not changed the balance of power or the reality that Russia is moving forward, that the Russian army is constantly occupying more and more territory, has not opened anyone's eyes either,” he added.

He emphasized that the only solution is possible only at the negotiating table: “We have to start negotiations, but in order to achieve peace, a ceasefire must be declared.
