A 30-year-old man in Poltava region has been notified of suspicion in the murder of his young son. According to the investigation, after the crime, he tried to cover up its traces, and cited jealousy of the child as the motive, UNN reports with reference to the Prosecutor General's Office.

Yevhen Hladiy, head of the Poltava Regional Prosecutor's Office, as the senior member of the group of procedural prosecutors, approved and signed the notice of suspicion to a resident of one of the villages in Poltava district. He is charged with intentional murder of a minor child (Part 2, Article 115 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).
According to the investigation, the crime was committed on April 21, 2026. That day, the family woke up around five in the morning. The man told his wife to rest more, after which he went to the kitchen with his three-year-old son. There, he stabbed the child in the back. Then he immersed his son in a bathtub with water and inflicted several more blows.
Convinced that the child was not breathing, the father placed the body in a backpack along with a canister of gasoline and a kitchen spatula. He left the house and headed to the forest. In the thicket, he dug a hole with the help of a spatula, put the backpack with the dead baby in it, doused it with gasoline, and set it on fire. As reported by the Prosecutor General's Office, the suspect told the investigation that the reason for his actions was jealousy of his son. After the birth, his wife paid more attention to the baby than to him.
At the request of the prosecutor, the suspect was remanded in custody.
