A waste landslide in the Gbessia commune following overnight downpours buried buildings. Six people were seriously injured, while another 16 sustained minor injuries.

On Sunday, the government of Guinea reported that a landslide at a landfill had claimed the lives of 30 people. This occurred after heavy overnight rains caused a huge pile of waste to collapse, burying nearby tents and huts, UNN reports, citing Reuters.

According to the government’s statement, the incident occurred at around 2 a.m. in the Gbessia commune of the Conakry region.

The landslide killed 30 people, seriously injured six, and left another 16 with minor injuries.

Rescue operations at the site of the landslide are continuing. According to eyewitnesses, the landslide was large enough to bury an apartment building and other old structures.
