The family of Natalia and Viktor Shevchenko received the keys to a new home in Myronivka, Kyiv region. Natalia and Viktor have taken in 6 foster children. Soon, the family is expecting an addition - several more kids will arrive. The house was built from scratch in September 2023.
Since 2023, the Olena Zelenska Foundation has been implementing the Address of Childhood project, which builds homes for large foster families. The goal of the project is to build homes for those families who lost them as a result of the full-scale invasion.
The Kyiv RMA and its head Ruslan Kravchenko decided to scale up the Foundation's Address of Childhood project in the Kyiv region, calling on philanthropists to join the initiative.
The Foundation has already built houses for two families in our region. In particular, these are the Yaroslavtsevs from Zaporizhzhia region and the Umanskys from Kherson region. The possibility of building a house for another family is being studied. Today, thanks to the synergy of the Olena Zelenska Foundation, the Kyiv Regional Administration and MHP, the Shevchenko family's dream of a cozy home for their family, which will soon grow even larger, has been realized. I am glad that the responsible business of Kyiv region responds and helps with such projects and support for the military
The construction of the house for the Shevchenko family was supported by the Myronivka City Council. The MHP-Community Foundation contributed financially to the project. The strategic partner of the MHP-Community Foundation is the international company MHP.
People who give shelter and a family to children deprived of parental care during a full-scale war are real heroes. For me, they are the Shevchenko family from Myronivka, who are raising 6 children and are planning to take in 3 more soon. Children need a home - a place of their strength. We have all known and realized the value of our common home for 10 years and have been defending it. That is why MHP joined this large-scale project without hesitation and gave the children and this family a reliable place of strength and strong support
It is based on a typical project for the construction of a house for a large foster family, which is being built as part of the Address of Childhood project of the Olena Zelenska Foundation.
Some of the people the Foundation's team has been taking care of since its inception are large foster families, where a father and mother raise 5 to 10 orphans and children deprived of parental care. It was for these families that we launched the Childhood Address project in 2023. Because one of their greatest needs is a home. Today, the Foundation has already built the first 14 houses, and we continue to develop this project so that all families who have lost their homes due to the war receive a new "Childhood Address". I am especially grateful to the partners who are now scaling up these efforts. And today I was very pleased to see the practical result of such cooperation
What was done during construction:
- Preparation of the land plot and arrangement of the pit with utilities: gas, heat, electricity and water networks and the Internet;
- construction of foundations, walls, shelters, ceilings and roofing;
- finishing works;
- furnishing with furniture, plumbing, kitchen equipment and supplies;
- arrangement of the adjacent territory and children's sports ground.
The area of the new house is almost 500 square meters, including 250 square meters of living space and 46.6 square meters of underground protective shelter. The house has 6 bedrooms, 1 kitchen, 1 common room. The house was originally designed and built as inclusive. There are no thresholds or steps. There is an entrance for a wheelchair from the yard. All doors are 90 cm wide to allow a wheelchair to pass through.
The Shevchenko family also received a car for easy transportation during the opening of the house.
