President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida discussed the situation at the front, Ukraine's need for non-lethal equipment, additional assistance for the current year, the sanctions regime against Russia and the preparation of a security agreement between the countries during a telephone conversation. The President announced this in Telegram, UNN reports

Had a phone conversation with Prime Minister of Japan Fumio Kishida.  I am grateful to the Japanese government and the entire nation for their large-scale and comprehensive assistance. Japan has already provided financial support to Ukraine worth more than $12 billion and announced additional assistance for the current year

- Zelensky wrote.

The President thanked the Prime Minister for holding a Japan-Ukraine conference in Tokyo in February, where more than 50 bilateral agreements were signed. According to Zelenskyy, the two leaders agreed to facilitate their speedy implementation.

The President also spoke about the situation on the battlefield, in particular about Russian air terror. He reminded that since the beginning of the year, Russia had fired almost a thousand missiles, approximately 2,800 "Shaheds" and almost 7,000 guided aerial bombs at Ukraine.

"I emphasized the need to increase sanctions pressure on Russia and create a mechanism for confiscating frozen Russian assets. In this context, Japan's imposition of the 23rd package of sanctions against Russia for the war in Ukraine is a good example for other international partners," Zelensky emphasized.

He also told the Prime Minister of Japan about Ukraine's need for non-lethal equipment: special equipment for the construction of fortifications, demining and medical evacuation. In addition, according to the President, the parties discussed the state of preparation of a bilateral security agreement following three rounds of negotiations.
