The White House accuses House Speaker Johnson of looking for excuses not to bring the Ukraine aid bill to a vote despite bipartisan support.

House Speaker Mike Johnson is looking for an excuse not to put the aid bill for Ukraine to a vote, White House spokeswoman Karin Jean-Pierre said at a briefing, UNN reports.

Details

Jean-Pierre was asked whether the White House is considering focusing on military aid to Ukraine alone, if it can get a majority in the House of Representatives.

She responded by noting that the bill already proposed by the administration would have bipartisan support in the House of Representatives if it were to be put to a vote.

"I think what's happening is that the Speaker (Johnson) is giving an excuse that is not justified, that is not needed.  Because we know that if he had put it to a vote, it would have passed," the White House spokeswoman said.

She said the White House encourages and will continue to encourage Speaker Johnson to bring the Ukraine aid bill to a vote.

Jean-Pierre  emphasized that Ukraine is losing ground on the battlefield, and this is partly because "Russia is becoming even more aggressive due to the inaction of Congress.

"It's about our national security, just as we talk about helping Ukraine, but it's also our own national security.  It's all connected," - summarized the White House spokesperson.

Addendum

Against the backdrop of constant missile attacks, US Ambassador Brigitte Brink has once again called for increased military assistance to Ukraine. According to the Ambassador, over the past five days, Russia has launched hundreds of missiles and drones against a sovereign country.
