President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen said that she is going to ask EU leaders to do more for Ukraine's energy sector. She said this on Wednesday in the European Parliament, UNN reports.
Details
As von der Leyen pointed out, the most urgent problem is Ukraine's energy system. European countries have already supplied Ukraine with thousands of power generators, transformers, electrical components, and millions of LED lamps. But, as the President of the European Commission pointed out, they “need to do even more” amid a significant capacity shortage.
Tomorrow at the European Council, I will ask leaders to do more to repair and further modernize the interconnector and to decentralize electricity generation. In these darkest days of the year, we must keep the lights on and keep the hope alive
Recall
On December 13, Russia launched its 12th massive attack this year on Ukraine's civilian energy infrastructure. Energy facilities in several regions of Ukraine were damaged.
