The embassies also called on those planning trips to "seriously reconsider decisions regarding travel to and through the region."

"Due to rising tensions in the Middle East, the security situation remains complex, with the possibility of unpredictable escalation," the statement said.

"The Iranian regime is unpredictable, as evidenced by its recent decisions to attack areas in the region without warning or provocation, as well as to expand attacks to territories that were not previously targets (including Egypt)," the statements said.

"Americans in the region should consider leaving or be prepared to depart in the event of escalation," the embassies stated, noting that tensions could lead to travel disruptions.

"Americans outside the Middle East should seriously reconsider decisions regarding travel to and through the region," the statements added. "Those who do travel to or from the region should monitor information about airport and airline operations."

The embassies stated that they continue to operate and provide "normal services for U.S. citizens and visa services."
