The Biden administration has decided to lift a three-year ban on offensive weapons sales to Saudi Arabia. This applies to certain deliveries of air-to-ground munitions, as reported to Congress.

The administration of US President Joe Biden has decided to lift the ban on the sale of offensive weapons to Saudi Arabia, which has been in place for three years to end the war in Yemen. It is about canceling certain supplies of air-to-ground munitions, Reuters writes, UNN reports.

Details

"The Biden administration has decided to lift the ban on US sales of offensive weapons to Saudi Arabia, reversing a three-year policy of pressure on the kingdom to end the war in Yemen," the publication writes.

As indicated, it is about lifting the suspension of certain transfers of air-to-ground munitions to Saudi Arabia.

"We will review new transfers on a typical case-by-case basis in accordance with the Conventional Arms Transfer Policy," the US official told the publication.

It is noted that the Biden administration informed Congress this week of its decision to lift the ban. Another source said that sales could resume next week.

"Under U.S. law, major international arms deals must be reviewed by members of Congress before they become final. Democrats and Republicans have questioned the provision of offensive weapons to Saudi Arabia in recent years, citing concerns including civilian casualties during its campaign in Yemen and a number of human rights issues," the newspaper notes.
