Ukrainian emergency medical specialists made an educational trip to Japan

A Ukrainian delegation of emergency medical specialists led by Deputy Health Minister Ihor Kuzin visited Japan to learn from its disaster response system to improve Ukraine's preparedness, especially in the face of military challenges.

11 specialists from Ukraine involved in the in the work of the emergency medical care and disaster medicine system, made an educational trip to Japan. The delegation was headed by the Deputy Minister of of Health and Chief State Sanitary Doctor of Ukraine, Ihor Kuzin, headed the delegation. According to Kuzin, Japan demonstrates a high level of readiness to to respond effectively to the consequences of unpredictable natural events - earthquakes, tsunamis earthquakes, tsunamis, landslides, etc. and man-made accidents. This experience is is important for Ukraine, especially in the context of military challenges.

The delegation of the Ministry of Healthcare of Ukraine got acquainted with planning and coordination of Japanese medical teams and will use this experience to strengthen the development of the Ukrainian response system based on international standards,

It is noted that disaster medicine teams in Japan are formed in health care institutions (about 1600 teams and 800 hospitals) and in the event of an in the event of an emergency, they go to the site.

The main ones among the teams emergency response teams are: DMAT - Disaster Medicine Team (in team consists of doctors, nurses and a logistician), DPAT - psychiatric support team (the team consists of two psychiatrists), Children's Aid Team, etc.

Emergency medical care is subordinated to the Fire Department (like the SES in Ukraine). in Ukraine).

The agency noted that both services demonstrate a high level of professionalism and readiness to respond to any challenges. This is achieved through a large number of trainings and simulations, after which each of the specialists clearly knows their role in the in the process of providing assistance. Ukrainian guests were convinced of this by attending a simulation training on responding to an emergency in the subway. 

Overall, the knowledge gained will be transformed into experience that will help Ukraine to improve approaches to training disaster medicine teams for emergency response. to respond to emergencies.
