NBU reserves decreased by 5% in March due to interventions and public debt payments. Receipts from the IMF and the World Bank only partially covered the expenses.

Ukraine's international reserves reached $52 billion at the beginning of April, decreasing by 5% over the month due to the National Bank's sale of foreign currency and the repayment of public debt, the NBU reported, writes UNN.

Ukraine's international reserves as of April 1, 2026, according to preliminary data, amounted to US$51,998.0 million. In March, they decreased by 5.0%.

- reported the National Bank.

The regulator explained this dynamic by "the National Bank's foreign exchange interventions and the country's debt payments in foreign currency." "These operations were only partially offset by receipts from international partners and from the placement of foreign currency government bonds," the NBU stated.

According to balance sheet data, the NBU sold $4,774.4 million on the foreign exchange market in March.

$123.3 million was paid for servicing and repayment of the foreign currency public debt. In addition, Ukraine paid $260.0 million to the IMF.

At the same time, in March, the government's foreign currency accounts at the NBU received $3,045.9 million, including:

  • $1,521.1 million – from the IMF under the EFF;
  • 1,474.3 million dollars – through World Bank accounts;
  • $50.5 million – from the placement of currency-denominated domestic government bonds.

In March, due to revaluation, the value of financial instruments decreased by $656.2 million. This, as stated, is due to the strengthening of the dollar against other reserve currencies and the decrease in the price of gold.

Despite the decrease, the volume of international reserves, the National Bank emphasized, "is sufficient to maintain the stability of the foreign exchange market."
