President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated that Ukraine currently has no official information about the accusation of Ukrainian Serhiy Kuznetsov in the case of the sabotage of the Nord Stream gas pipelines. German media previously reported that Kuznetsov had been charged.

Official Kyiv has not yet received verified information regarding the details of the charges brought against Ukrainian Serhiy Kuznetsov in the case of the sabotage of the Nord Stream gas pipelines. This was stated by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy during a press conference with Irish Prime Minister Micheál Martin in Dublin on July 1, reports UNN.

Details

Commenting on reports of charges being brought against a Ukrainian in Germany, Zelenskyy noted that Ukraine currently does not have official information regarding the details of this process.

"We do not know all the details of this process right now. We have not officially received all the details, at least I have not seen them. The relevant bodies of our two countries will connect, and when we receive more details, we will be able to react accordingly," Zelenskyy said.

Context

Earlier, German media, including ARD, Süddeutsche Zeitung, Die Zeit, and ZDF, reported that the German Federal Prosecutor's Office had brought charges against Ukrainian citizen Serhiy Kuznetsov in the case of the sabotage of the Nord Stream and Nord Stream 2 gas pipelines in the Baltic Sea.

According to these media outlets, the case is to be heard by the Higher Regional Court in Hamburg. Kuznetsov is suspected of involvement in organizing sabotage against energy infrastructure. He may be charged with participation in the explosion and destruction of infrastructure facilities.

Currently, the German Federal Prosecutor's Office has not publicly commented on the details of the charges brought against the Ukrainian.

What you need to know about Serhiy Kuznetsov

Serhiy Kuznetsov was detained in Italy in August 2025 under a European arrest warrant from Germany. In November of the same year, he was extradited to Germany. The Ukrainian himself denies involvement in the sabotage of the gas pipelines.

However, according to the German investigation, a group of individuals in September 2022 may have used a chartered yacht to transport explosives to the area near the island of Bornholm, where explosions on the gas pipelines subsequently occurred.

What is known about the sabotage of the Nord Streams

The explosions on the Nord Stream and Nord Stream 2 gas pipelines occurred on September 26, 2022, in the Baltic Sea. They damaged three of the four pipeline strings.

Denmark and Sweden previously concluded that it was sabotage, but in 2024 they closed their investigations without naming those responsible. Germany continued its own investigation.

Ukraine, for its part, denies state involvement in the sabotage of the gas pipelines.

Reminder

In early January 2026, the Ukrainian Parliament Commissioner for Human Rights, Dmytro Lubinets, received an appeal from the wife of Serhiy Kuznetsov, the suspect in the Nord Stream sabotage, regarding inadequate conditions of detention in a German pre-trial detention center. At that time, the Ukrainian was not given winter shoes, was not allowed to make phone calls, and was kept in isolation.
