Ukraine has accumulated a $22.8 billion trade deficit: what products and where did it buy the most

The deficit of Ukraine's foreign trade in goods in January-October this year amounted to $22.8 billion, which is almost the same as last year's figure for the same period. This is evidenced by the data of the State Customs Service released on Friday, UNN reports.

In 10 months of 2024, Ukraine's trade turnover reportedly amounted to $92 billion. In January-October 2024, Ukraine imported goods worth $57.4 billion and exported goods worth $34.6 billion. At the same time, taxed imports amounted to $47.4 billion, or 83% of the total volume of imported goods.

Thus, the deficit amounted to $22.8 billion, while in the same period last year it was $22.4 billion.

Countries from which Ukraine imported the most goods:

  • China - $11.6 billion, 
  • Poland - $5.6 billion,
  • Germany - $4.4 billion.

Ukraine exported most of its products to the United States:

  • Poland - by $4 billion, 
  • Germany - by $2.4 billion, 
  • Spain - by $2.4 billion.

In the total volume of goods imported in January-October 2024, 65% of the goods were of the following categories:

  • machinery, equipment and transport - $20.3 billion, 
  • chemical products - $9.3 billion, 
  • fuel and energy - $8.7 billion.

The top three most exported goods from Ukraine are the following:

  • food products - $20.3 billion, 
  • Metals and metal products - $3.8 billion, 
  • machinery, equipment and transport - $2.9 billion.
