Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Andrii Sybiha, during a meeting with Japanese State Minister for Foreign Affairs Ayano Kunimitsu, discussed military cooperation between Russia and the DPRK, as well as the European initiative to restrict entry for individuals who participated in the war against Ukraine, and issues of Ukraine's energy resilience. The sides also discussed the security situation, the latest developments on the battlefield, international efforts aimed at achieving a just and lasting peace, and prospects for the development of the Ukrainian-Japanese partnership.
Sybiha expressed gratitude to Japan for its support of Ukraine since the first days of the full-scale Russian invasion.
"Since the first days of the full-scale war, Japan has consistently supported Ukraine. This support is an important signal that we are not alone in defending freedom, sovereignty, territorial integrity, and the principles of international law,"
The head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine informed the Japanese side about the situation on the front, Ukrainian peace initiatives, and the results of Ukraine's asymmetric actions, and also drew attention to the growing risks associated with military cooperation between Russia and the DPRK.
Particular attention was paid by the sides to the long-term consequences of Russian aggression for international security, as well as the European initiative to restrict entry for individuals who participated in the war against Ukraine.
Issues of Ukraine's recovery and energy resilience were also discussed: "Particular attention was paid to issues of Ukraine's recovery and energy resilience. The Minister expressed gratitude to Japan for its significant contribution to supporting the Ukrainian energy sector."
For her part, Ayano Kunimitsu reaffirmed unwavering support for Ukraine.
"Japan will continue to stand by Ukraine. We highly value the courage of the Ukrainian people and remain committed to supporting efforts aimed at achieving a just and lasting peace,"
The sides also discussed the recovery of Ukraine, the involvement of businesses in reconstruction projects, innovative partnerships in the fields of unmanned technologies and artificial intelligence, as well as preparations for the Ukraine Recovery Conference (URC 2026) in Gdańsk.
