Republican presidential candidate and and former US President Donald Trump has called on the US Supreme Court to reject a request from federal prosecutors for an immediate review of his claim that he cannot be prosecuted for trying to overturn his defeat in the 2020 election. In response to Special Counsel Jack Smith's request to the highest American court to intervene as soon as possible to resolve the immunity issue, Donald Trump sent an appeal. He urges the justices not to "rush to judgment recklessly" as the issue of immunity should be "should be decided carefully and deliberately, not hastily".
As already suggested in the media, the purpose of the appeal is to try to delay the process as long as possible, and ideally until ideally, until 2025.
