U.S. President Donald Trump said he called on Israel to agree to a truce with Hezbollah. He called it a positive step and praised his relationship with Prime Minister Netanyahu.

U.S. President Donald Trump said on Friday that he called on Israel to support a ceasefire with Hezbollah after a new truce was reached between the two sides, UNN reports citing CNN.

In a telephone interview with NBC News, Trump said he spoke with Israel earlier on Friday and urged them to agree to a ceasefire, but declined to say whether he spoke directly with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

"It's positive," Trump said. "It's the cherry on top," he added, referring to a memorandum of understanding signed by the United States and Iran to end the war.

Trump also praised his relationship with Netanyahu.

"I've always had a good relationship with Bibi," he said. "Sometimes you just need to calm down and think with your head."

The U.S. president's comments came as Israel and Hezbollah agreed to a new ceasefire, multiple sources familiar with the situation told CNN.
