In December, three cases of a new sub-variant of the coronavirus, Pirole, were reported in Ukraine. In total, 17 strains of coronavirus are circulating in Ukraine - all sub-variants of the Omicron strain. This was reported by the Ministry of Health of Ukraine on Wednesday, UNN reports.
Details
Three cases of the Pirole sub-variant of the coronavirus were detected last week. Two in Vinnytsia region and one in Kropyvnytskyi. The patients are women over 50 years old. Currently, 17 strains of the SARS-CoV-2 virus are circulating in Ukraine - these are different sub-variants of the Omicron strain
According to Kuzin, each sub-variant has certain features, but in terms of clinical symptoms, it is either a moderate or mild course of the disease.
The symptoms of the Pirole sub-variant are reportedly the same as those of other COVID-19 variants: runny nose, fever, cough, headache, fatigue, loss of smell or taste, possible eye irritation, and rashes.
A total of 8,709 cases of COVID-19 were registered in Ukraine last week. The coronavirus has claimed the lives of 43 Ukrainians over the age of 30. Vaccination remains the only way to gain immunity and, in case of illness, to tolerate it more easily and reduce the level of complications during the disease.
Kuzin emphasized that vaccination points in the country are provided with free COVID-19 vaccine, so people who have missed vaccination or are at risk of severe disease should consult a family doctor and get vaccinated.
AddendumAddendum
The first laboratory-confirmed case of a new sub-variant of the coronavirus, the Omicron variant, called Pyrola, was detected in Rivne Oblast in November. A 20-year-old man fell ill.
A new sub-variant of the virus (BA.2.86) called Pirola was first reported in Israel in the summer, followed by the United States, Denmark, and the United Kingdom. In August, the WHO published a risk assessment of the new strain of coronavirus as requiring monitoring at the country level.
