Ukraine’s Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha said that UNICEF had missed the key point by not identifying the deaths of children as a consequence of Russia’s aggression. He also pointed out errors in the data on victims in Ukraine and called for Russia’s war crimes to be condemned.

Ukraine’s Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha criticized UNICEF’s statement regarding reports of children killed and injured as a result of attacks in the Russian Federation and Ukraine, stressing that the organization is missing the key point: all these child deaths are a direct consequence of Russia’s war of aggression against Ukraine, UNN reports.

It is extremely regrettable that in its statement of August 4, UNICEF missed the key point: all these child deaths are a direct consequence of Russia’s war of aggression against Ukraine. By presenting information about these victims without this fundamentally important context, UNICEF creates a false impression of equivalence between the aggressor and the victim

- Sybiha stressed.

Moreover, according to him, UNICEF’s statement lacks basic fact-checking. It does not mention that the casualties in Krasnodar, Russia, resulted from the fall of a drone that was reportedly intercepted by Russian air defenses. UNICEF also failed to verify information about the casualties in Ukraine: in Dnipropetrovsk region, seven, not three, children from one family were killed. And yesterday, Russia killed another innocent Ukrainian child—a three-year-old boy in Kyiv region.

These are Russia’s war crimes. We call on UNICEF to condemn these horrific crimes and call on Russia to stop killing innocent Ukrainian children

- Sybiha concluded.
