Russia wants to understand whether US President Donald Trump has truly changed his position on the war in Ukraine after French President Emmanuel Macron stated at the G7 summit this month that such changes had occurred. This was reported by Reuters, citing a statement by Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, writes UNN.

Macron, who hosted the G7 summit in the French town of Évian, stated that during negotiations, Trump acknowledged that Russia does not seek peace in Ukraine. According to the French leader, this marked a "real change in approach" on the part of the United States.
Trump himself, after a meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, which he called "very good," called on Russia to reach agreements with Ukraine. These comments sparked cautious optimism among G7 leaders regarding the possibility of concluding a peace deal.
"As for Ukraine, we want to understand what happened in Évian," Lavrov stated at an event in Moscow.
"The Americans have not yet informed us what conclusions they drew after the summit in Évian and what their next steps will be," he added.
Lavrov also referred to Macron's words that the agreements reached in August last year between Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin in Anchorage (Alaska) were effectively "buried" in Évian.
It is noted that Russian officials regularly mention the so-called "spirit of Anchorage" — a term which, according to analysts, Moscow used to denote a potential basis for an agreement. It would have involved the withdrawal of Ukrainian troops from the remaining territory of Donbas in exchange for freezing the front line in other areas.
Kyiv has repeatedly stated that it will not cede any part of its territory to Russia without a fight.
Highlighting Moscow's growing frustration with the situation, Lavrov on Tuesday suggested that the summit in Anchorage might have been "an American trick to buy time for rearming the Kyiv regime." Two other senior Russian officials this week also accused Washington of failing to fulfill the "agreements" reached at that time.
On Wednesday, Lavrov stated that Putin had agreed to a proposal which, he claimed, was put forward by the American side.
"In Anchorage, he told President Trump: 'There are certain nuances here, but I take responsibility upon myself and accept your proposals.' That was already a compromise. And now they tell us: 'Listen, this isn't working yet — let's come up with another concession,'" said the head of the Russian Foreign Ministry.
Lavrov repeatedly emphasized that Moscow wants to continue dialogue with the United States and expects the next visit to Russia by Trump's special envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner.
At the same time, he complained about the continuation of American sanctions against Russia and expressed regret that the two countries have still not managed to restore direct air service or agree on the return of Russian diplomatic property seized by US authorities.
Furthermore, according to Lavrov, the United States does not impose any restrictions on the supply of weapons to European countries for subsequent transfer to Ukraine.
