The Netherlands will provide Ukraine with the Alkmaar-class minehunter Zr.Ms. Makkum. The ship, as part of the Ukrainian Navy, will be named "Henichesk" - in honor of the ship lost in June 2022 near the Kinburn Spit during a combat mission. This was reported by UNN with reference to the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine.
Details
The new ship will arrive in Ukraine in June 2026. Alkmaar-class mine countermeasures vessels have the following characteristics:
- crew: 28-38 people;
- displacement: 543 t;
- length: 51.5 m;
- width: 8.9 m;
- draft: 3.8 m;
- maximum speed: 13 knots (~ 24 km/h).
Ships of this class have light small arms, including heavy machine guns, for self-defense.
This is the fifth ship and the third - in addition to "Mariupol" and "Melitopol" - minehunter of this class, transferred by partners to strengthen the Ukrainian Navy
It is also planned that the new ship will take part in the Sea Breeze exercises in 2027.
