The Netherlands to allocate EUR 17 million to support Ukraine's judicial system

The Dutch government will provide 17 million euros to support Ukraine's judicial system, helping to bring justice to victims of war crimes; this includes strengthening the prosecution and police. The Netherlands will allocate 17 million euros to strengthen Ukraine's judicial system to restore justice for victims of war crimes. This was announced during a visit to Kyiv by Dutch Foreign Minister Hanke Brains Slot, UNN reports.

During her visit to Ukraine, the Dutch Foreign Minister met with her Ukrainian counterpart Dmytro Kuleba and President Volodymyr Zelenskyy. She also emphasized the importance of continuing to support Ukraine.

This will be a long conflict, so together with the EU and NATO, we must continue to do everything we can to support Ukraine in defending itself against russia

In her talks, the minister also emphasized that war crimes against the Ukrainian people should not go unpunished.

That is why the Netherlands will provide Ukraine with €17 million to restore justice for victims of war crimes. Part of the funds will be used to strengthen Ukraine's judicial system.  

This contribution will consist of two parts:

  • 9  million euros, which have already been allocated to the project "Restoring Dignity and Justice in Ukraine", which aims to support the Ukrainian justice system with knowledge, practical experience and capacity, in particular in the field of international criminal law
  • 8 million euros to support the European Union Advisory Mission (EUAM). These funds will be used to strengthen Ukraine's prosecutor's office and police in the liberated areas of the country. The mission will also use the money for advisory services in the field of investigation and prosecution.

Dutch Foreign Minister Hanke Brains Slot, also met with Ukrainian Ombudsman Dmytro Lubinets and discussed the abduction of children by the Russian military. [As a reminder, the Netherlands provided Ukraine with three modular field hospitals and six medical evacuation vehicles to strengthen the medical capabilities of the Ukrainian Armed Forces during the conflict with Russia. The equipment has cold-resistant characteristics, 36 beds with active ventilation, and a special unit of medical personnel.
