The Ministry of Culture and Information Policy of Ukraine has included a program to protect the tradition of covering houses with straw and reeds in the National List of Elements of Intangible Cultural Heritage. This was reported by UNN with reference to the ICIP.
Details
The agency said that the program is being implemented at the National Museum of Folk Architecture and Rural Life of Ukraine, which has been serving to preserve Ukrainian traditions for more than half a century.
The program focuses on research and protection of traditional roofing technologies, including training of craftsmen who are proficient in these ancient methods. It also aims to restore the entire process cycle - from procurement of materials to independent roofing, popularize environmentally friendly technologies and return them to widespread use

It is noted that the museum regularly carries out both complete overlapping of architectural structures and partial repair of roofs. All this is done to preserve the historical appearance of architectural objects, which contributes to the preservation of the traditions of folk construction.
The program itself has been in place since the museum was founded in 1969 and is in line with its goal of preserving and reproducing traditional Ukrainian architecture, popularizing folk crafts, and researching folk art.
