Environmentalists expressed concern about the lack of practical steps on the part of the IAEA, despite preliminary agreements. Back in September, the agency's director general, Raphael Grossi, agreed to expand inspections to include electrical substations, which are often targets of Russian shelling.
It is noted that despite the agency's promises, only six days of inspections were conducted in three months, the last of which took place in October 2024. During this period, Russia launched two massive strikes, threatening the stability of the Ukrainian energy system and the safety of nuclear facilities.
The IAEA is fully aware of the danger, but has not yet taken any real action. The future Grossi is talking about has already arrived, and the situation is extreme when every hour counts.
