Death toll from double earthquake in Venezuela exceeds 5,500

According to the head of the National Assembly, the number of dead has reached 5,546 people. Aid has been received by 128,324 families, and 17,907 people have been left homeless.

The death toll from the double earthquake that struck Venezuela a month ago has risen to 5,546, according to a report published this Friday by the President of the National Assembly of Venezuela, Jorge Rodríguez, writes UNN.

Details

As stated, 128,324 families received government assistance, and shelter was provided to 23,811 people.

To date, 17,907 people remain homeless, 6,462 survivors have been rescued, and 16,740 have been injured.

The number of damaged buildings remains at 856, and the number of completely destroyed buildings is 190.

After the earthquake, which triggered 1,500 aftershocks, a total of 51,215,582 liters of water were distributed, and 10,977 tons of food were delivered, as indicated.

Two earthquakes of magnitudes 7.2 and 7.5 that shook Venezuela on June 24 caused direct physical damage of $19.6 billion, but the cost of recovery could be twice as high or even higher, according to a preliminary assessment by the World Bank, published on July 24.
