The Cabinet of Ministers has approved payments of 50,000 hryvnias for male and female defenders who were released from Russian captivity and require long-term inpatient treatment. Such payments are provided for by a law that the Verkhovna Rada adopted back in October last year. This is reported by UNN with reference to government resolution No. 882 of July 8, 2026.
Details
According to the resolution, during the period of martial law, servicemen who, immediately after release from captivity, are undergoing inpatient treatment (receiving medical and/or rehabilitation care in the healthcare sector in inpatient conditions) in healthcare facilities for more than 30 calendar days, are paid an additional remuneration in the amount of 50,000 hryvnias per month.
The payment of additional remuneration in the amount of 50,000 hryvnias is made in the military units (subunits) where the servicemen are on support, monthly throughout the entire period of their continuous inpatient treatment.
An examination by a military medical commission to decide on the need for long-term inpatient treatment is conducted no later than 30 calendar days from the date of the start of treatment.
The conclusion of the MMC on the need for long-term inpatient treatment is the basis for continuous inpatient treatment in healthcare facilities with the preservation of monetary and material support and the payment of additional remuneration for the period specified in such a conclusion, but not more than 12 months.
However, if a serviceman, after release from captivity, is notified of suspicion of committing crimes against the foundations of national security of Ukraine or military criminal offenses, the payment of additional remuneration is temporarily suspended.
The resolution states that police officers, as well as representatives of the civil protection service who were in Russian captivity, will be able to receive the funds.
Addendum
On October 9, 2025, the Verkhovna Rada adopted draft law No. 13627, which provides for a monthly payment of 50,000 hryvnias to military personnel released from captivity who require long-term inpatient treatment.
On October 11 last year, the President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelenskyy, signed the aforementioned draft law.
The law came into force on November 15, 2025, and among other things, it established that the Cabinet of Ministers had to ensure the adoption of regulatory legal acts necessary for the implementation of this law within a month.
