Speaker of the Verkhovna Rada Stefanchuk commented on the statement by the head of the Platform for Life and Peace parliamentary group, Yuriy Boyko, about "radicals" who rename cities, demolish monuments, and prohibit them from going to their preferred church. Stefanchuk pointed out that Russian dictator Vladimir Putin is actually responsible for the violence in Ukraine, UNN reported.
One cannot talk about the ban on going to church without mentioning the more than 500 churches of various denominations destroyed by the Nazis. We cannot talk about the desecration of monuments without mentioning the head of the Shevchenko monument in Borodyanka, which was shot through by Russian looters. And in general, one cannot talk about any violence against people without mentioning Putin, who is the only one to blame for all this
Context
Yuriy Boyko spoke about "radicals" who forbid people to speak their native language and attend the same church, drawing a parallel with the events in the United States, where there was an incident with the demolition of Christopher Columbus monuments.
"It seems that our radicals have taken the same course and started demolishing monuments across the country, renaming cities, forbidding people to speak their native language, forbidding them to go to the church they want to go to. And today we see that this movement continues, that violence against people continues," said the deputy.
The Center for Countering Disinformation and the Office of the President criticized his position.
Deputy Speaker of the Verkhovna Rada Olena Kondratyuk announced that Yuriy Boyko's statements may be considered at the conciliation board.
