The Prosecutor's Office, together with law enforcement agencies, is conducting a special operation "Budget". Prosecutor General Ruslan Kravchenko reported the results of this special operation over two weeks: UAH 1.2 billion in damages to the state have been established, reports UNN.
As the Prosecutor General reported, 129 criminal proceedings have been initiated within the framework of the special operation.
"129 criminal proceedings. 259 suspects. Over UAH 1.2 billion in established damages to the state in just two weeks. These are the results of the special operation 'Budget', which the prosecutor's office is conducting jointly with law enforcement agencies across the country," the statement reads.
The largest damages were established in the fuel and energy complex: over UAH 373 million, in the infrastructure development sector: over UAH 254 million, in the management of state and municipal enterprises: almost UAH 127 million. Significant embezzlements were also uncovered in the healthcare, land relations, and education sectors.
"For me, budget crimes are not about 'ineffective management' or 'mistakes'. This is money that should have worked for defense, medicine, recovery, education, and communities, but instead ended up in someone's pockets," Kravchenko emphasized.
As the Prosecutor General reported, among the suspects are heads of communities, their deputies, local council deputies, officials of state authorities, heads of state and municipal enterprises, law enforcement officers, and representatives of private business.
According to Kravchenko, this is only an interim result.
"We are establishing the role of each participant in the schemes, the movement of funds, assets that may be seized to compensate for the damages caused to the state. New exposures and suspicions lie ahead. Every hryvnia stolen from the budget must receive two responses: return to the state and a sentence for the guilty," the Prosecutor General summarized.
