Biochemist Hannele Ruohola-Baker from the University of Washington stated that her team has already created a dental organoid that produces enamel proteins. In the future, these developments could be used to restore damaged teeth, and later to grow full-fledged teeth directly in the patient's body.
Researchers note that natural tooth restoration could become a more durable alternative to implants, which require replacement over time and do not reproduce all the functions of a natural tooth.
