Two saboteurs who set fire to a relay cabinet at a Ukrzaliznytsia freight station on the instructions of Russian intelligence have been detained in Kyiv. They face life imprisonment for sabotage under martial law. UNN reports this with reference to the SBU press service.

Details

To commit sabotage, the occupiers engaged a local 22-year-old resident who came to the attention of the aggressor because of his convictions for hooliganism and fraud.

For the money, the man first had to burn down a relay cabinet near one of the Ukrzaliznytsia freight stations in Kyiv. To accomplish the task, the Kyiv resident engaged his 17-year-old friend, a local handyman.

In accordance with instructions from the Russian Federation, the saboteurs conducted additional reconnaissance near the potential target at night, took pictures of it and sent it to their Russian supervisor for "approval.

They then purchased tools to break the protective panel of the electrical equipment and a flammable mixture. Waiting until dusk, the saboteurs broke the door of the relay cabinet and set fire to its technological part.

The perpetrators then filmed the fire on a cell phone camera for "reporting" to the occupiers.

Later, the attackers were to continue a series of arson attacks on Kyiv's railway infrastructure.

SBU officers thwarted the enemy's plans and detained both saboteurs in hot pursuit.

During searches of the detainees' homes, cell phones with evidence of their subversive activities in favor of Russia were seized. They also had "working equipment" used to commit arson.

SBU investigators served the defendants a notice of suspicion under Part 2 Article 28, Part 2 Article 113 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (sabotage committed by a group of persons under martial law).

The repeat offender is currently in custody, and his accomplice has been imposed a measure of restraint in the form of nightly house arrest.

Both men face life imprisonment with confiscation of property.
