The World Badminton Federation (BWF) has suspended its membership Badminton Federation of Russia in the organization after it was established that the Russian Federation violates terms of membership. About the relevant information the decision was announced by the BWF on Thursday, reports UNN.

It was established that the Russian Badminton Federation violates the terms of membership of the BWF governing organisation by including in its jurisdiction territories that fall under the jurisdiction of another member, as recognised by the international community. These are the Ukrainian territories of Donetsk, Kherson, Luhansk and Zaporizhzhia.
The decision must be confirmed by the members of the organisation at the 2024 Annual General Meeting in Chengdu, China. At the same time, the process that allows players with Russian passports to participate in BWF-sanctioned tournaments as "independent neutral athletes" remains in place.

BWF banned performances of Russian and Belarusian athletes in March 2022 after a full-scale Russia's invasion of Ukraine. Regarding Belarus, it is noted that the country is used as a key springboard for Russia's aggression against Ukraine, which Moscow calls "special operation".
