Details

More than six months ago, two Ukrainians were stabbed to death near a shopping center in Murnau, Bavarian Oberland. The murdered men were soldiers who were undergoing rehabilitation at a local clinic after being wounded. After the tragic incident, the Munich District Court approved charges against the Russian on suspicion of murder.

The Munich prosecutor's office accuses the defendant, a Russian citizen, of stabbing two disabled Ukrainian soldiers in Murnau in April 2024 after a dispute over the situation in Ukraine, reports Wild.

What is known about the defendant

A 57-year-old man, Yuriy J., who has already appeared in police custody several times, is accused of killing the Ukrainians; he has lived in Germany since the early 1990s.

According to the prosecutor's office, the suspected Russian citizen stabbed two soldiers, aged 23 and 36, who were being operated on for war injuries at the Murnau clinic, located near the shopping center.

The 57-year-old Russian was familiar with the next victims from several previous meetings in Murnau.

The accused is a “supporter of Russian nationalism,” media reports say.

According to the police and prosecutors' investigation, he and his alleged victims had also been drinking together on that Saturday afternoon in late April before they began arguing about the war in Ukraine.

A Russian man, who was at least drunk, brought a knife from a neighboring apartment and suddenly stabbed his victims, who were also in a state of severe alcohol intoxication.

- writes sueddeutsche.

The suspect in the crime, Yuriy J., fled to his neighboring apartment after the incredibly brutal act - and left a bloody trail all the way to his apartment.

Initially, investigators did not assume that the crime was politically motivated. However, since they could not rule it out with certainty, the Munich Public Prosecutor's Office took over the case.

More precisely: The Bavarian General Directorate for Combating Extremism and Terrorism, writes Wild.
