The Patrol Police provided parents with a list of important safety rules for children during the winter holidays. The recommendations include monitoring the location of children, using reflectors, and instructing them on how to behave in emergency situations.

Law enforcement officers reminded parents of 9 important safety rules for children during the winter holidays, UNN reports with reference to the National Police of Ukraine

Parents are advised to make sure that the winter holidays are successful and safe for their children:

- Do not leave children unattended, especially pay attention to disturbing or unusual behavior that may indicate discomfort or danger.

- Control where and with whom your children are, what they are doing, especially if they are new friends or companies.

- If you have to leave your child at home alone, give them a safety briefing, explain what to do in case of an emergency (e.g., fire or power outage), and leave numbers to call for help.

- When letting your child go for a walk, remind them of the rules of the road, especially about crossing the road when it gets dark.

- Attach reflective elements to children's clothing to make them visible to drivers in the dark. Ensure that the elements are positioned so that they are clearly visible to drivers.

- Do not leave sharp, cutting objects or matches within easy reach of children. If your child is older, teach them how to handle such items safely.

- Explain to the children why it is dangerous to walk on ice-covered bodies of water. Give real-life examples and explain the consequences to help them understand the danger.

- Warn children to be careful when sledding, skiing, or ice skating and not to do so near roads. Choose specially equipped places for such activities.

- Teach children that if necessary, they can contact patrol officers or call 102 or 112. Tell them how to properly report an incident and indicate their location.
