The 41-year-old forward opened the scoring in the sixth minute of the match after a pass from João Cancelo. Ronaldo scored his second goal in the 39th minute after an assist from Bruno Fernandes.
Portugal eventually defeated Uzbekistan 5-0, and Ronaldo was named the best player of the match.
The record dates back to the 2006 World Cup
Ronaldo made his World Cup debut in 2006 and has since scored goals at the tournaments in 2010, 2014, 2018, 2022, and 2026.
This year, together with Lionel Messi, he became the first footballer in history to participate in six World Cups. At the same time, only the Portuguese player managed to score at each of them.
In addition, Ronaldo became the second oldest goalscorer in World Cup history. The oldest remains Cameroonian Roger Milla, who scored at the 1994 World Cup at the age of 42.
Thanks to his brace in the match against Uzbekistan, Ronaldo brought his tally to 10 goals at World Cups and became the top scorer of the Portugal national team in the history of the tournament, surpassing Eusébio, who had nine goals.
The match against Uzbekistan was also Ronaldo's 230th for the national team – a record figure in international football.
