A fraudster was detained in Kharkiv who tried to cheat the wife of a deceased soldier out of money, promising to return him from captivity. This was reported by the Security Service of Ukraine, according to UNN.
Details
The SBU Military Counterintelligence together with the National Police exposed a Kharkiv resident who promised to bring the soldier home for $10,000.

The police explained that the offender "played" on the fact that the soldier died in the so-called gray zone, so his body has not yet been handed over to his family.
After learning about this, the fraudster began to impersonate an SBU officer and convince the woman that her husband was allegedly held captive by the Russian occupiers.
SBU officers documented the criminal actions of the suspect and detained him while he was receiving money from the victim. Currently, the offender was served a notice of suspicion under Part 4 Art. 190 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (fraud). It is planned to choose a custody as a measure of restraint
It is noted that during the search, a cell phone with evidence of illegal activity was seized from the detainee.

The SBU explained that the man promised the military wife his assistance in "returning" the military man home. In particular, the offender "guaranteed" his victim that he would put the name of the allegedly captured soldier on the list for a "priority" exchange.

An investigation is currently underway to establish all the circumstances of the crime. The offender faces up to 8 years in prison.
As a reminder,
the SBU exposed 30 collaborators who worked with Russian troops in Ukraine. They were notified of suspicion in absentia under Part 7 of Article 111-1 - collaboration. Each of the suspects faces 12 to 15 years in prison.
