President of the Czech Republic Petr Pavel has already received from the government a document outlining the action plan of the Czech delegation at the meeting of the highest representatives of NATO countries in Ankara on July 7 and 8. A source for Novinky.cz, informed about the content of the material, confirmed that the Czech Republic will express support for Ukraine at the summit and will commit to raising defense spending in the coming years to up to 5% of GDP by 2035. Priority should be given to air and anti-drone defense, reports UNN citing Radio Prague.
"The material does not show any significant contradictions between the position of the government and the president," the Novinky.cz source reported.
The Czech Republic expects from the summit in Ankara an assessment of the implementation of the tasks from last year's meeting in The Hague and a discussion of defense investments, which should gradually approach 5% of GDP. Other topics should include the defense industry and, no less importantly, support for Ukraine. Czech President Petr Pavel also emphasized this on the X network.

"I appreciate that the government's mandate for the NATO summit in Ankara also includes further support for Ukraine," the head of the Czech Republic stated.
According to information from Novinky.cz, the document states that the Czech Republic is interested in NATO reaffirming its commitment to long-term support for Ukraine, particularly in the event of peace in the country. The document also recalls that the Czech Republic is already participating in supporting Ukraine, notably by playing a coordinating role in the "shell initiative." According to the document, last year this project provided approximately half of the ammunition delivered to Ukraine, and in 2026 its importance grew even further.
The Czech Republic will also continue training Ukrainian soldiers and will send military personnel to the command structure of NSATU (NATO Security Assistance and Training for Ukraine) in Wiesbaden, Germany. However, the Czech delegation will not support the aspiration of NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte for NATO member states to commit to allocating 0.25% of their GDP to support Ukraine.
